Southern Health Improvement Samity, SHIS, was established in 1979 under motivation of Brother Gaston Dayanand by a group of young activists with M. A. Wohab as the prime activist, later joined by Sabitry Pal. What started as a small clinic in a tea shop in Bhangar with primary focus on Tuberculosis, has spread its wing by far in the fields of health, sanitation, arsenic free pure drinking water, education, child welfare, Herbal Plantation, Micro Credit Facilities, women empowerment, rehabilitating criminals and so on. If the initiative is novel, success is must. People of 2463 villages of North and South 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal are witness to that.
